Helping youth become responsible caring citizens and acquire skills for participating in the democratic process is the main thrust of these programs. They also develop leadership skills and provide opportunities for planning, decision-making, contributing to Club and community, and celebrating our national heritage.
TEENSupreme® Keystone Club
The Keystone Club is a chartered small group leadership development club for members ages 14-18. Keystoners elect officers, choose their own activities and plan and implement community service projects.
As nationally chartered club, our Keystoners participate in regional and national Keystone conferences.
The Keystone Club meets every Wednesday night from 6:30 - 8:30 at the Williams Avenue facility. Interested members are encouraged to come by a meeting, or to contact Martin DeCosta - mdecosta@epbgc.org / (401) 434-6776.
The Youth of the Year Program
Each year, teen members of the Boys & Girls Club compete to become the Club Youth of the Year, and then participate in the Youth of the Year Program. This national competition is designed to promote and recognize service to Club and community, academic performance and contributions to family and spiritual life.
Club level winners go on to compete against members of other Rhode Island Boys & Girls Clubs, and statewide winners then compete at the regional and national levels.
Building Bridges
Building Bridges is a program that brings children ages three through eighteen into local nursing homes for regular monthly visits. The main objectives of this program are: to enhance the quality of life for nursing home residents by creating an inter-generational visiting program, to develop a sense of extended family for both the residents and the children, to sensitize young children to the existence and needs of seniors residing in long term care facilities, to bring adults into nursing homes through the activities of their children, and to expose children to the rewards of volunteer activities.
The Boys and Girls Club brings members to East Gate Nursing Home and East Bay Manor. While there the children play games such as bingo and make art projects with the residents, bringing smiles to everyone's faces.
